About Daily Calorie
Our Mission
We believe that understanding what you eat should be simple, free, and accessible to everyone.
Daily Calorie is a free online calorie calculator designed to help people make informed decisions about their daily food intake. Whether you are managing your weight, training for a specific fitness goal, or simply curious about what is in your meals, our tool lets you search for foods, build a meal, and instantly see a complete nutritional breakdown — including calories, protein, carbohydrates, and fat.
There are no accounts to create, no subscriptions to pay for, and no unnecessary features getting in the way. Just a clean, fast, and reliable tool that does exactly what it promises.
Why This Site Exists
This project started from personal experience. As someone actively trying to maintain a healthier diet, I realized that most people — myself included — significantly underestimate or overestimate the calories in everyday foods. A handful of almonds, a bowl of white rice, a glass of orange juice — these seem simple, but without accurate data, it is impossible to make truly informed choices.
I looked for tools that could help. What I found were apps that required account creation and monthly payments just to unlock basic features, calorie databases buried behind cluttered interfaces, and generic search results that gave inconsistent numbers depending on the source.
That frustration became the motivation behind this site. I wanted to build something that anyone could open in a browser and start using immediately — no barriers, no distractions, just accurate nutritional data presented clearly.
How It Works
Using Daily Calorie is straightforward:
- Search for any food by name using the search bar.
- Select from the results to add it to your meal list.
- Adjust the serving size to match what you actually eat.
- Review the total calories and macronutrient breakdown for your entire meal.
The tool calculates everything in real time, so you can experiment with different combinations and portion sizes to find what works for your goals.
Where Our Data Comes From
Accuracy matters — especially when it comes to nutrition. That is why all of our nutritional data is sourced directly from the USDA FoodData Central database, which is maintained by the United States Department of Agriculture.
This is the same dataset relied upon by registered dietitians, nutrition researchers, healthcare providers, and government agencies worldwide. It contains detailed nutritional profiles for over 300,000 food items, including branded products, raw ingredients, and common restaurant foods. The database is updated regularly to reflect the latest scientific findings and food composition analyses.
By using this trusted, government-maintained data source rather than user-submitted or unverified information, we ensure that the numbers you see on this site are as accurate and reliable as possible.
Who Is Behind This Site
My name is Shawn, and I am a business student at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, Canada. Outside of my studies, I have a strong passion for web development and building digital tools that solve real everyday problems.
This site is a personal project that combines my business mindset — understanding what users actually need — with hands-on technical skills I have developed independently. I built it because I genuinely needed it myself, and I continue to maintain and improve it based on user feedback and new ideas.
If you have questions, suggestions, or feedback of any kind, I welcome you to reach out through the Contact page. I read every message and do my best to respond promptly.
